BSNL Revival- BSNL Profit Turnaround and Stability Now Enough to Serve Countrywide, Says Scindia

BSNL, once struggling for survival, is now back on a growth trajectory with two consecutive profitable quarters in FY25. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia credits Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategic revival efforts and BSNL’s self-reliant 4G expansion for this transformation. With nearly 95,000 indigenous 4G sites deployed, BSNL is firmly re-establishing itself in India’s digital landscape.

BSNL’s financial and operational revival marks a major milestone for India’s telecom sector. After nearly two decades of losses, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) reported back-to-back profits—₹280 crore in Q4 FY25 and ₹262 crore in Q3. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia credited the Modi government’s focused revival packages and BSNL employees efforts for this impressive turnaround, calling it a “reinvention” of the state-run telecom giant.

How BSNL Was Revived: From Crisis to Comeback

Once seen as a failing public sector unit under the previous UPA regime, BSNL was described by Scindia as being “beyond ventilator support.” In contrast, the Modi government injected strategic revival packages worth ₹3 lakh crore, enabling the transformation of BSNL into a competitive telecom provider once again.

India’s First Indigenous 4G Rollout

A key pillar of BSNL’s turnaround is its nationwide rollout of an entirely indigenous 4G network. As of now:

  • 95,000 4G sites have been installed.
  • 90,000 sites have been commissioned.
  • Over 74,000 sites are live and serving customers.

Scindia emphasized that this infrastructure has been developed indigenously, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) mission and securing BSNL’s position in India’s digital growth story.

BSNL’s Financial Performance: A Historic Shift

  • Q4 FY25 Net Profit: ₹280 crore
  • Q3 FY25 Net Profit: ₹262 crore
  • First time in 18 years that BSNL has reported consecutive quarters in profit

This shift underlines not just survival, but a return to financial stability and operational efficiency.

BSNL’s Digital Future: Ready for 5G and Beyond

While BSNL is currently focused on expanding its 4G footprint, it is also preparing for 5G rollouts in select cities by 2025. The telco has already launched Q-5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services and aims to contribute meaningfully to India’s Digital India vision.

Minister Scindia’s Message

“BSNL is no longer just surviving—it is thriving,” said Scindia. He praised the entire BSNL workforce—from rural linemen to headquarters staff—for their dedication, calling their work critical to this national success story.
