State-run BSNL plans to ramp up its 4G rollout with 1 lakh additional towers, following a successful first phase. Once the network stabilizes, the Cabinet will be approached for approval. Minister of State Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani emphasized that this move will enable cost-effective tariffs and potentially free 5G wireless access to attract customers.
Pemmasani highlighted BSNL’s strength in rural and border areas, trusting its service reliability. He noted that with improved 4G quality and indigenous technology, subscriber growth is expected. The operator is also exploring bundled broadband offerings to boost appeal.
Currently, over 50% of the 100,000 planned sites (around 84,000) are live, including some in difficult terrains like forests and hills. BSNL aims to finish the rollout within a few months, followed by a nationwide 5G launch once quality benchmarks are met.
