Summary:
Vodafone Idea has showcased Vinzy, a personal AI assistant designed to manage routine calls and communicate with callers on a user’s behalf through the Vi app. Demonstrated as a prototype at India Mobile Congress 2026, Vinzy can be configured with user preferences, personalised with a name and, if launched, is expected to support around 15 Indian languages. The company has not yet confirmed a launch date or whether the feature will be commercially released. Vinzy is intended to help users save time by handling everyday calls and specific communication tasks automatically.
Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), India’s third-largest telecom operator, has showcased Vinzy, a new personal AI assistant that could potentially compete with offerings from Jio and Airtel. Vinzy is an artificial intelligence-based feature designed to operate within the Vi app. However, it is important to note that Vi has presented Vinzy only as a prototype at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026. The company has not yet confirmed whether the feature will be launched or provided any timeline for its availability. At its core, Vinzy is designed to reduce the effort users have to spend managing everyday phone calls.
How Does Vi Vinzy Work?
Vinzy will be integrated into the Vi app, where users can access and configure the assistant. During the setup process, Vinzy will collect information about the user’s preferences and instructions. Once configured, the AI assistant can perform certain actions on the user’s behalf. For instance, a user could instruct Vinzy to tell Amazon delivery personnel to leave packages at the gate. Whenever an Amazon delivery agent calls, Vinzy could handle the conversation and communicate those instructions directly.
Users can configure Vinzy for various other situations based on their requirements. The assistant can also be given a personalised name. For example, a user could name the Vinzy agent Raj, allowing them to interact with the assistant using that name. If launched, Vinzy is also expected to support conversations in around 15 Indian languages.
Vodafone Idea describes Vinzy as “your own personal AI assistant for managing your calls, commitments, and everyday life.” The assistant can also ask users about specific types of calls for which they would like it to intervene and communicate on their behalf. The concept represents an interesting development in the telecom space. While Jio and Airtel are also pursuing their own innovations, Vi’s Vinzy could offer users a convenient way to save time and reduce the effort involved in handling routine calls.
