Telecom Regulatory Authority of India publishes telecom subscriber data report for April 2026

The latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India showed that Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio continued leading subscriber additions in April 2026, gaining 3.13 million and 2.94 million wireless users respectively, while Vodafone Idea and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited also recorded modest growth. Wireless tele-density improved slightly to 93.69 per cent, with Airtel and Jio further expanding their market shares. The report also highlighted steady growth in rural and wireline subscribers, while Mobile Number Portability requests rose sharply to 14.74 million during the month, taking cumulative MNP requests beyond 1.31 billion. 

According to the latest figures published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea added 3.13 million, 2.94 million, and 0.05 million wireless subscribers respectively during April 2026, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited recorded a monthly addition of 0.07 million users. Following these additions, Airtel’s wireless subscriber base rose to 480.88 million, Jio’s to 499.28 million, Vi’s to 198.53 million, and BSNL’s to 93.01 million.

TRAI’s data further indicated that in rural wireless markets, Airtel added 1.16 million subscribers, Jio gained 0.86 million users, Vi added 0.33 million, and BSNL registered an increase of 0.02 million subscribers during the month. The regulator also reported a slight improvement in overall wireless tele-density, which increased from 93.26 per cent in March 2026 to 93.69 per cent in April 2026.

In the wireline segment, Airtel, Jio, and Vi added 0.34 million, 0.14 million, and 0.007 million subscribers respectively, taking their fixed-line user bases to 11.76 million, 15.37 million, and 0.86 million. BSNL also reported an addition of 0.003 million wireline users during the same period.

The April 2026 data also showed Airtel and Jio slightly expanding their wireless market shares to 37.81 per cent and 39.25 per cent respectively, compared to 37.74 per cent and 39.21 per cent in March 2026. Meanwhile, Vi’s market share declined to 15.61 per cent from 15.68 per cent, while BSNL’s share stood at 7.34 per cent compared to 7.31 per cent in the previous month.

Additionally, around 14.74 million mobile users submitted requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) during April 2026. As a result, the cumulative number of MNP requests since the service was introduced increased from 1,296.55 million at the end of March 2026 to 1,311.29 million by the end of April 2026.
