The Sanchar Mitra Scheme, launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), is a youth-centric initiative aimed at leveraging the enthusiasm and potential of students to promote safe and responsible digital practices. Under this program, selected student volunteers—called Sanchar Mitras—will educate the public on mobile safety, telecom fraud prevention, and key government digital initiatives.

These volunteers will carry out community outreach in schools, colleges, and public spaces, spreading awareness on the secure and informed use of telecom services. Students will be chosen from technical institutions across India, including those in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, particularly from disciplines such as telecom, electronics, IT, and cybersecurity.
The scheme also promotes skill development by providing top performers with access—on a best-effort basis—to opportunities like R&D projects, engagement with telecom startups, involvement in policy and standards development, participation in field surveys, and exposure to DoT initiatives, conferences, and events. Recognition and incentives will be managed through DoT units, in collaboration with existing resources and institutional partnerships.
