BSNL to Deploy 4,000 New Towers in Naxalite-Hit Chhattisgarh to Boost Digital Connectivity

Summary:
To improve digital connectivity in remote and Naxalite affected areas, the Government of India will set up 4,000 new BSNL telecom towers in Chhattisgarh. The move supports the broader target of ensuring digital inclusion in the remote regions, led by the Minister of State for Telecom Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.

Government’s Push to Connect the Unconnected

In a major step to increase rural telecom infrastructure, the central government is ready to deploy 4,000 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) towers in Naxal-affected areas of Chhattisgarh. The objective of this initiative is to expand 4G connectivity in some of India’s lowest and strategically sensitive areas.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Telecom, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani confirmed the plan during his official visit to Raipur, where he reviewed the major rural and telecom initiative. The deployment will be in stages, which will require approval from the security forces and the forest department.

What does this Telecom Expansion Mean?

The minister emphasized that BSNL is already distributing high quality 4G services across the country and this expansion will further the government’s Digital India Mission- ensuring connectivity reaches the every village

He described the project as a part of a “mission-mode” development effort in Naxalite-Hit areas, with the target of integrating efforts from many departments, post departments, rural development departments and BSNL and enabling door-to-door service distribution.

Why Does it Matter?

  • Better digital access in distance and conflict-affected areas
  • Support for e-governance, education, healthcare and financial services
  • Safety operation and intelligence coordination
  • Aspirational Districts promotes inclusive growth under the program

Alliance with the Broad Vision of the Government

This infrastructure expansion is part of the government’s push to bring the final-mile connectivity, improve the quality of life in rural India and to create a digitally strong society. With BSNL playing a major role, it also marks a revival in state-led telecommunications service distribution.

The deployment of BSNL towers in the Naxalite affected areas of Chhattisgarh reflects a strong commitment to bridge the digital divide, even in the most challenging geographical conditions. It stands as a model for technology-operated governance and rural empowerment.
