Good news for eSIM users — Apple and Google are finally working together to make eSIM transfers between iPhones and Android devices smoother and more seamless.
Currently, transferring an eSIM between platforms requires users to contact their telecom provider and obtain an activation or QR code, a process that’s relatively simple when moving between two iPhones or two Android phones — but not across platforms. That’s about to change with Apple’s upcoming iOS 19.
According to a report by Android Authority, the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update contains code strings that hint at a major new feature: wireless eSIM transfers from iPhones to Android devices. However, this functionality will only work if the devices are connected wirelessly, and the iPhone will need to be running iOS 19.
eSIM adoption is growing globally and is now supported by almost all major smartphone brands. In some international markets, eSIM-only iPhones are already the norm. However, in India, most devices still include at least one physical SIM slot, making the transition to eSIMs slower.
More clarity is expected during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled for June 9–13, 2025. The event will showcase all the latest updates coming to Apple’s operating systems across devices — including iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. With iOS 19, several major upgrades are anticipated, and some reports even suggest a complete UI and UX overhaul of the operating system.
