Summary:
India is setting ambitious goals beyond 5G — aiming to secure 10% of global 6G patents and triple its satellite communication (Satcom) market to nearly $15 billion by 2033, said Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025. The minister highlighted India’s transformation from a technology follower to a global digital innovation leader, driven by indigenous design, manufacturing, and digital skills.
India’s Vision Beyond 5G: 6G and Innovation Leadership
Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized that India’s technological ambitions now extend well beyond 5G, with the Bharat 6G Alliance targeting 10% of global 6G patents. As global standards for 6G evolve, India aims to play a defining role by contributing homegrown innovations and research. “The day is not far when the world will depend on India,” Scindia stated, encouraging innovators to “design here, solve here, and scale everywhere.”
Satcom Market to Triple by 2033
Highlighting the rapid rise of satellite communications, Scindia noted that the Indian Satcom market — currently valued at $4 billion across telecom and broadcasting — is expected to reach $15 billion by 2033. With connectivity expanding from land to sea to space, Satcom will play a vital role in bridging digital gaps and enabling next-generation services such as remote sensing, IoT, and global broadband access.
India’s Self-Reliant Tech Ecosystem
Scindia underscored that India is now transitioning from a service-led economy to a product-driven innovation hub. He credited the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for driving over ₹91,000 crore in new production, ₹18,000 crore in exports, and the creation of 30,000 new jobs. He said these results reflect India’s growing manufacturing and R&D capabilities in the telecom and electronics sector.
Building the World’s Largest Digitally Skilled Workforce
At the core of this digital revolution, Scindia highlighted, lies India’s human capital. The country is set to become the world’s largest digitally skilled workforce, fueling innovation across sectors like 6G, satellite communications, AI, and semiconductors.
India’s push for 6G leadership and satellite connectivity expansion marks a new era of self-reliance and technological dominance. With strong policy backing, public-private partnerships, and skilled human resources, India is positioning itself as a global digital powerhouse shaping the future of communication technology.
