Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde lauded the winners of the National e-Governance Awards, calling them revolutionaries who are significantly simplifying the lives of citizens across India. His remarks were made during the inauguration of the 27th National Conference on e-Governance in Mumbai. The event, spanning two days, focuses on the theme “Viksit Bharat: Secure and Sustainable e-Service Delivery.”

The conference featuring six plenary and six breakout sessions will address key topics such as the development of digital platforms and public infrastructure, the role of data governance in privacy and security, and the use of AI in governance. The sessions will focus on creating sustainability through e-governance and exploring cybersecurity and emergency response readiness. There will also be sessions on excellence in e-governance initiatives at both the central and state levels, along with discussions on emerging technologies, ecommerce, and district-level initiatives.

In his speech, Mr. Shinde underscored the importance of e-governance as a cornerstone of development, highlighting its role in making government more responsive, inclusive, and centered around citizens’ needs. He pointed out that e-governance is not just about deploying technology but also about shifting mindsets toward greater transparency and trust in government institutions. He also cited the efficient transfer of funds under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ as a successful example of e-governance, emphasizing that public satisfaction is as essential as technological advancement in these initiatives.

During the program, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the renaming of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Organization and Methods. The department will now be known as the Department of Administrative Innovation, Excellence, and Good Governance. This change reflects the department’s renewed focus on fostering innovation, achieving excellence in administration, and promoting good governance practices across the state. He also unveiled a special souvenir of Department of Information Technology, Government of Maharashtra named “Minimum Government and Maximum Governance”.
