Bank of Baroda and Reliance Jio introduce a mobile banking application designed for users of feature phones

Summary:
Bank of Baroda and Reliance Jio have partnered to launch “bob World Lite,” a mobile banking app designed for feature phone users, particularly on the JioPhone Prima 4G. The app enables digital payments and basic banking services such as UPI transactions, bill payments, and recharges, and is accessible to both BoB and non-BoB customers through simple self-registration. Pre-installed on the device and available via JioStore, the initiative aims to expand digital banking access beyond smartphones, promote financial inclusion, and reach a wider customer base.

Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Reliance Jio announced on Monday that they have collaborated to introduce “bob World Lite,” a mobile banking application tailored for feature phone users, specifically those using the JioPhone Prima 4G.

According to a statement from the public sector bank, the app aims to expand access to digital payments for feature phone users. It will be available not only to existing BoB customers but also to customers of other banks through an easy self-registration process.

At present, the bob World Lite app includes features such as UPI-based Scan & Pay and money transfers, bill payments and recharges, as well as profile management. Additional functionalities are expected to be added over time.

As part of this collaboration, the application will be pre-installed on JioPhone Prima 4G devices and can be accessed directly from the home screen. Users who already own the device can download the app via the JioStore.

Debadatta Chand, Managing Director and CEO of BoB, stated that partnering with Jio to roll out bob World Lite marks an important move in taking digital banking beyond smartphones. He highlighted that with a significant and expanding number of feature phone users in India, the initiative will provide easy, secure, and anytime banking, while also helping reduce the digital gap. He added that it will enable the bank to reach and engage a broader customer base, supporting its focus on inclusive and sustainable growth.
