Vodafone Idea Gears Up for Phased 5G Rollout Across India

Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) is gearing up for the phased rollout of its 5G network, aiming to launch by March 2025. In a letter to subscribers, CEO Akshaya Moondra announced plans to enhance connectivity through the deployment of thousands of new sites, promising faster and more seamless experiences.

“The future is here! We are preparing for the phased rollout of 5G, bringing you blazing-fast and unparalleled experiences,” Moondra stated in the letter.

Unlike its competitors, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, which have already launched 5G services nationwide, Vi remains the only private telecom operator yet to commercially deploy its 5G network. The company emphasized its collaborations with global technology leaders such as Ericsson, and Samsung to ensure the success of its upcoming 5G launch.

In preparation, Vi added over 46,000 new sites in 2024 and enhanced capacity at more than 58,000 locations. These upgrades have significantly improved network performance, particularly with the adoption of Indoor Coverage Plus technology, which enhances connectivity indoors, whether at home, in offices, or malls.

To further elevate user experience, Vi has introduced advanced SPAM detection solutions and innovative tariff plans tailored to customer needs. The telco also highlighted its achievements in 4G performance, claiming India’s best 4G network as recognized by OpenSignal. Vi has excelled in metrics such as 4G download and upload speeds, video and gaming experiences, and voice app calling performance.

The phased rollout of Vi’s 5G network aims to deliver a transformative digital experience and position the company as a key player in India’s evolving telecom landscape.
