Vodafone Idea Grants Ericsson 4G5G Contract in Key Operational Circles

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), India’s third-largest telecom operator, has awarded Ericsson a significant 4G/5G contract in key operational circles. This move will enhance Ericsson’s market share in the country’s network infrastructure business. Ericsson will assist Vodafone Idea in deploying 4G and 5G networks across existing operational areas, including Delhi, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, further expanding its footprint. 

Ericsson will introduce its energy-efficient, lightweight mid-band Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radios to support the rollout. Akshaya Moondra, CEO of Vodafone Idea, stated, “Our collaboration with Ericsson will allow us to modernize our 4G infrastructure and swiftly deploy a world-class 5G network, enhancing customer experience and managing growing data traffic.” 

Andres Vicente, Head of Ericsson’s Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India, added, “5G is a key driver of digital transformation. With our advanced technology, we aim to help Vi deliver fast, reliable, and scalable 5G services.” Vodafone Idea plans to begin its 5G rollout by the end of 2024, focusing on key regions where 5G will offer the most benefits.
