Vodafone Idea Enhances International Roaming with Baggage Protection Service

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has upgraded its International Roaming offering by integrating a baggage protection service into all its Postpaid International Roaming packs at an additional cost of ₹99. Partnering with Blue Ribbon Bags, a US-based lost baggage concierge service, Vi Postpaid customers will now be eligible for compensation of ₹19,800 per bag if their luggage is lost or delayed beyond 96 hours of filing a complaint. The telecom provider aims to provide added convenience and peace of mind to international travelers.

Vi’s Earlier Initiative

In February 2024, Vodafone Idea initially partnered with Blue Ribbon Bags to offer a complimentary lost baggage cover on select international roaming plans for a limited period between February 26 and March 21, 2024. Notably, Airtel has been providing this service as a complimentary feature on its premium postpaid plans for some time, highlighting a growing industry focus on enhancing travel-related benefits for customers.

Addressing a Key Travel Concern

Vi emphasized that lost or delayed baggage is a major concern for travelers, often leading to stressful situations during trips. Citing the 2024 SITA report, Vi noted that over 36 million bags were mishandled globally, underscoring the need for enhanced baggage security solutions. With the surge in international travel post-pandemic, Vi’s baggage protection service offers an extra layer of security, ensuring customers travel with greater confidence.

“The Baggage Protection service by Vi provides customers a safety net in the unfortunate event of lost or delayed baggage, making their travel experience worry-free,” the company stated.

How the Blue Ribbon Bags Service Works

Vi Postpaid customers can opt for the baggage protection service while purchasing any International Roaming pack. Available for an additional ₹99, the service requires prior registration with Blue Ribbon Bags before travel. In the event of lost or delayed baggage, customers must file a report with both the airline and Blue Ribbon Bags within 24 hours of landing.

Blue Ribbon Bags leverages a global tracking network to locate and expedite the return of misplaced luggage. If the baggage is not recovered within four days, customers are entitled to compensation of ₹19,800 per bag (up to two bags) without any additional documentation or conditions.

Commitment to Customer-Centric Innovation

Vi stated that this initiative reflects its commitment to offering customer-centric innovations that extend beyond core telecom services. Vi’s International Roaming plans are designed to provide comprehensive benefits, including unlimited data and calls across 29 countries, unlimited incoming calls in over 122 countries, and 24/7 live agent support via WhatsApp. With this expansion, Vi aims to ensure seamless connectivity and enhanced travel convenience while addressing key concerns like high roaming charges and baggage security.
