Seamless Connection During Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 approaches, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ramped up efforts to ensure seamless communication for millions of pilgrims and visitors in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Significant upgrades to telecom infrastructure across the city, the Mela grounds, and key public areas aim to support the massive turnout at the world’s largest religious gathering.

Upgraded Infrastructure in Prayagraj City

To enhance connectivity, 126 km of optical fiber has been laid across Prayagraj, providing a robust telecom backbone. The installation of 328 new towers and masts, along with 575 new Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) for all mobile technologies, complements the upgrade of 1,462 existing BTS units. These developments aim to ensure uninterrupted communication for visitors throughout the city.

Advanced Network in the Mela Grounds

In the Mela area, a high-speed, reliable network has been established with 192 km of optical fiber cable (OFC). The deployment of 78 portable towers (CoWs) and 150 outdoor small-cell solutions enhances coverage in densely crowded zones. Additionally, 352 new BTS units and upgrades to 50 existing units further bolster connectivity for the unprecedented gathering of devotees.

Optimized Networks for Public Spaces and Highways

Telecom services have been optimized at key transport hubs such as railway stations, bus terminals, airports, parking areas, and highways leading to Prayagraj. A particular focus has been placed on the Green Corridor to ensure consistent network services in high-traffic areas, facilitating smooth traffic flow and communication.

Citizen-Centric Services

To improve public safety and convenience, telecom providers have established 53 help desks across the Mela grounds. These centers assist with fraud communication reporting and mobile blocking services for lost or stolen devices. Additionally, electromagnetic radiation tests have confirmed that all telecom towers adhere to permissible safety limits. Emergency alerts, disaster warnings, and general updates will be sent via a Cell Broadcast Alert system and a Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) platform.

Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness

Three disaster management centers have been set up within the Mela area, operated by telecom providers Airtel, BSNL, Jio, and Vi. These centers are equipped with advanced technology to maintain emergency communication channels and ensure a swift response in case of crises.

Enhancing the Digital Experience

The upgraded telecom infrastructure will not only provide seamless connectivity but also elevate the digital experience for attendees. From mobile payments to live-streaming religious rituals, the DoT aims to meet the demands of modern-day devotees while ensuring high-quality services for millions.

These measures reflect the DoT’s commitment to facilitating a safe, efficient, and digitally advanced environment for the Maha Kumbh Mela, a globally significant event.
