Scindia Reviews Bharat 6G Alliance Progress as India Accelerates 6G Development

The government also highlighted India’s growing telecom innovation ecosystem, with B6GA member organizations collectively filing over 7,700 patents related to 5G and 6G technologies, including more than 4,400 international patent applications. 

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday assessed the progress made by the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) in supporting India’s next-generation telecommunications roadmap, according to an official statement.

India’s 6G journey was formally outlined on March 22, 2023, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision document. The strategy aims to position the country as a global leader in the research, development, and deployment of 6G technologies by 2030.

According to the official statement, Scindia chaired the review meeting in New Delhi in the presence of Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and Telecom Secretary Amit Agrawal.

During the meeting, officials evaluated the progress achieved by the Bharat 6G Alliance and reviewed the actions undertaken to drive the country’s 6G objectives forward.

Bharat 6G Alliance Drives Key Technology Initiatives

The alliance operates through seven dedicated working groups that focus on critical areas, including spectrum, technology development, device manufacturing ecosystems, applications, sustainability and green technologies, outreach, as well as 6G use cases and business opportunities.

Growing Momentum in India’s 6G Research

The government also highlighted the strengthening of India’s telecom innovation landscape, noting that organisations associated with the Bharat 6G Alliance have collectively filed more than 7,700 patents related to 5G and 6G technologies. This includes over 4,400 international patent applications, reflecting the country’s expanding research and innovation capabilities in next-generation communications.
