NTT Docomo Unveils 6G Harmonised Intelligence Initiative

NTT Docomo has launched a new initiative called the “6G Harmonised Intelligence” project, marking the first step toward its vision of 6G as a “Network for AI.” As the next generation of communication technology, 6G is currently being explored by various standardization bodies and companies, with commercial deployment anticipated in the 2030s, according to the Japanese telecom operator.

The Vision for 6G

Docomo envisions 6G not just as a technological upgrade but as a catalyst for creating new values like “sustainability” that were absent in previous generations like 5G. The operator believes 6G will contribute to building a more sustainable and efficient society, highlighting five key values: Sustainability, Efficiency, Customer Experience, Network for AI, and Connectivity Everywhere.

6G Harmonised Intelligence Project

The “6G Harmonised Intelligence” project (6GHI PJ) aims to explore new worldviews, concepts, use cases, and services by collaborating with experts in AI and robotics. It will focus on innovation in devices, networks, and user interfaces (UI/UX).

Collaborative Efforts

To achieve its goals, the project will work with three leading experts, including the head of the R&D Center for Digital Nature at the University of Tsukuba. NTT Docomo anticipates that the combined expertise of these specialists will lead to groundbreaking solutions that fully harness the potential of 6G technology.
