LocalCircles Survey- TRAI’s Crackdown Reduces Pesky Calls for 27% of Mobile Users

A survey by the online platform LocalCircles reveals that 27% of mobile subscribers have noticed a reduction in pesky calls following the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) crackdown on unregistered telemarketers. However, the majority of respondents reported no relief, with many observing an increase in robo calls instead.

According to the survey, only 9% of mobile users confirmed a net reduction in pesky calls after TRAI’s measures, while 18% experienced fewer spam calls but noted a rise in automated and robo calls.

“This is the first time in five years of our survey series that 27% of mobile users report a reduction in pesky calls. However, of this group, 18% have flagged an increase in robo and automated calls, highlighting the need for continued regulatory vigilance to ensure sustained improvement,” said Sachin Taparia, Founder of LocalCircles.

The survey received over 14,000 responses from mobile users across 309 districts between September 15 and November 20, 2024. LocalCircles noted that the number of responses varied for each question, reflecting widespread concerns over the effectiveness of current anti-spam measures.

The findings underscore the need for TRAI to address the growing issue of automated spam calls while ensuring that its recent initiatives lead to lasting relief for mobile users.
