Maharashtra Becomes First State to Partner with Starlink for Satellite Internet Connectivity

In a groundbreaking move, Maharashtra has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink, marking India’s first-ever state-level partnership with the satellite internet company. The agreement, signed by Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink, and Virendra Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Government of Maharashtra, was witnessed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

The partnership will empower the Digital Maharashtra initiative, providing high-speed satellite internet access across remote and underserved regions. It aligns with the state’s broader goals in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, coastal development, and disaster resilience, ensuring reliable digital inclusion even in areas lacking terrestrial connectivity.

Starlink’s Role in Bridging the Digital Divide

Starlink Vice President Lauren Dreyer said that the company’s mission is to “connect those left behind by traditional infrastructure.” Through this collaboration, Starlink will help deliver fast and reliable internet to schools, healthcare facilities, and rural communities, thereby transforming access to essential digital services.

She added that Maharashtra’s vision for inclusive, resilient, and future-ready digital growth aligns perfectly with Starlink’s global mission to expand connectivity to every corner of the world.

A Milestone for Digital India

This initiative supports the goals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India mission, demonstrating how state-led innovation and global collaboration can drive digital empowerment at the grassroots level.
