Jio Call Agent 7 Important Facts About the Native AI-Powered Voice Assistant

Summary:
Reliance Jio has announced Jio Call Agent, a generative AI-powered voice assistant that will be integrated directly into its 5G network and offered free to more than 500 million subscribers later this year. The AI assistant will support multiple Indian languages, provide real-time call transcription, identify up to 10 speakers, generate meeting summaries, set reminders, and perform tasks such as booking cabs or ordering food with user consent. Jio also plans to bring a similar AI assistant to the MyJio app for services like recharges, JioFiber installation scheduling, and eSIM activation. Additionally, the company revealed plans to launch an enhanced Jio AirFiber service with speeds of up to 5 Gbps download and 1 Gbps upload, enabling seamless high-quality digital experiences.

At the recently held 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani unveiled a new generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) capability that will be rolled out to Jio’s 5G subscribers later this year.

Named Jio Call Agent, the feature is designed as an AI-powered voice assistant that will be natively embedded within Jio’s mobile network services.

Jio Call Agent: Key Highlights

  • Users will not need to download or install Jio Call Agent separately, as the service will be integrated directly into the Jio network infrastructure.
  • Unlike AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Gemini that offer advanced capabilities through paid subscriptions, Jio Call Agent will be available at no additional cost to Jio’s more than 500 million 5G customers.
  • During calls, users can interact with the AI assistant using the wake phrase “Hey Jio.” The assistant will support all major Indian languages and can perform various tasks, provided users grant permission for assistance during calls.
  • The AI assistant will offer real-time transcription of voice conversations and, in its initial phase, will be capable of distinguishing and identifying up to ten different speakers, making it useful for business meetings and group discussions.
  • It will also be able to create meeting summaries, generate action points, schedule reminders, and instantly share the information with other participants in a conference call.
  • With user approval, the assistant can handle everyday tasks such as booking taxis, ordering meals, reserving restaurant tables, and other similar activities.
  • Jio plans to launch the service for customers across India later this year.

The company also intends to introduce a similar AI-powered assistant within the MyJio application. Instead of navigating the app manually, users will be able to interact through voice commands for tasks such as recharging accounts, checking JioFiber availability after relocating, scheduling broadband installations, and even completing self-KYC procedures for activating a new eSIM within minutes.

In a related announcement, Akash Ambani revealed that Jio will soon introduce an upgraded Jio AirFiber service capable of delivering multi-gigabit internet speeds. The offering is expected to provide download speeds of up to 5 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1 Gbps, enabling seamless streaming of ultra-high-definition 8K content across multiple devices without buffering.
