Jio Anniversary Offer on Completion of 8 Years

Reliance Jio celebrated its 8th anniversary on Thursday by offering special deals on select recharge plans. As per the details on Jio’s website, users recharging between September 5 and September 10 can avail benefits worth Rs 700 on quarterly plans of Rs 899 and Rs 999, as well as the annual plan priced at Rs 3,599.

These benefits include a 10 GB data pack with 28-day validity worth Rs 175, free access to 10 OTT platforms, and a complimentary three-month Zomato Gold membership, among other perks. The Rs 899 and Rs 999 plans currently offer a daily data limit of 2 GB, with validity periods of 90 days and 98 days, respectively, while the Rs 3,599 annual plan provides 2.5 GB of data per day for 365 days.

Jio’s entry in September 2016 disrupted the telecom market with free voice calls and affordable data rates, quickly dethroning established competitors. By February 2017, within 170 days of its launch, Jio had surpassed the 100-million customer mark, adding an average of 7 customers per second. With its “2G Mukt Bharat” campaign, Reliance Jio aimed to democratize digital access across India, fulfilling this promise with initiatives like JioPhone (smartphone), JioBharat (affordable 4G phone), Jio AirFibre (fixed wireless broadband), and comprehensive 5G services.

In its latest AGM, Chairman Mukesh Ambani outlined a bold vision for Jio’s future, focusing on AI and deep technology. Announcements included up to 100 GB of free cloud storage for Jio users, the Jio Brain AI service platform, and gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centers in Jamnagar. Other innovations included Jio TvOS with the HelloJio voice assistant and JioPhoneCall AI.

Jio boasts over 490 million subscribers, including 130 million 5G users, making it the largest 5G network outside China. Jio also carries 60% of India’s total data traffic, with data consumption per user having increased by more than 73 times since 2016. Remarkably, even with this surge in demand, data costs in India remain the lowest globally, with current rates being 30 times cheaper than in 2016 when Jio first launched.
