Invitation for Proposals: Research on 6G Ecosystem Development by DoT

India’s rapid advancement in 5G deployment has propelled the government to initiate groundwork on the next frontier of telecom technology, as it now seeks proposals to expedite research on the development of the 6G ecosystem. Neeraj Mittal, the Telecom Secretary, unveiled the “Bharat 5G Portal – an integrated portal” on Tuesday, designed to serve as a comprehensive solution hub for all quantum, IPR, 5G, and 6G-related endeavors.

Mittal, upon inaugurating the portal, remarked on India’s remarkable pace in rolling out 5G, positioning the nation as one of the fastest globally and swiftly transitioning discussions towards 6G. He emphasized India’s standing as the world’s second-largest telecom network and highlighted the nation’s surprising achievements in developing indigenous 4G/5G technologies within a short timeframe.

Highlighting India’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, which boasts one lakh startups, Mittal underscored the opportune moment for global collaboration with India. He noted the growing recognition of India as a trusted partner, with increasing interest in collaborating on 5G and 6G technologies. The government is also fostering investment opportunities for startups in the telecom sector, as evidenced by initiatives like the “Bridging Dreams and Funding” session inaugurated during the Bharat Telecom event.

During the session, 26 startups showcased innovative telecom products, drawing the participation of over 10 venture capitalists and investors. Such initiatives reflect India’s dedication to technological progress and the expansion of the telecom industry. Mittal stressed the importance of creating new business avenues for Indian manufacturers by fostering greater involvement of startups, reaffirming India’s position as the third-largest tech startup ecosystem globally.
