India Post Partners with BSNL for SIM Sales and Recharge Services

India Post Partners with BSNL for SIM Sales and Recharge Services

The Department of Posts (DoP) has partnered to sell SIM cards with BSNL and provide mobile recharge services through post offices across India, which starts with a successful pilot move in Assam. The purpose of this collaboration is to expand the reach of BSNL in rural and underserved areas by benefiting the large network of India Post.

Under the MoU signed on 17 September 2025, BSNL will provide SIM inventory and staff training, while the post office will manage onboarding and recharge. The initiative addresses the awaited access gap, which brings telecom services closer to civilians. Officials highlight that this partnership combines BSNL’s telecommunications capabilities with a reliable presence of India Post to ensure safe and reliable service distribution.

This step is expected to boost BSNL’s subscriber base and strengthen its rural steps, while India will position the post as the key to digital inclusion. If scaled across the country it can significantly reduce connectivity barriers for millions of people in India.
