India Adds 5600+ New 5G Base Stations in August 2025, Total Nears 5 Lakh

Summary:
India deployed 5,615 new 5G base stations (BTS) in August 2025, taking a total of 498,135 sites nationwide. This is slightly less than the Rollout of 6,450 BTS in July, but Vodafone continues to expand India’s 5G footprint with operators, advancing developments like Idea, Reliance Jio and Airtel. 

India’s 5G network continues to expand rapidly, confirming with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that more than 5,600 new 5G BTS were added in August 2025. The total is now from 492,520 to 498,135 in the July 2025 portfolio. 

Month-Wise 5G BTS Growth in 2025 

  • August 2025: +5,615 sites (Total: 498,135)  
  • July 2025: +6,450 sites (Total: 492,520)  
  • June 2025: +4,312 sites (Total: 486,070)  
  • May 2025: +3,299 sites (Total: 481,758)  
  • April 2025: +4,225 sites (Total: 478,459)  
  • March 2025: +4,442 sites 
  • February 2025: +2,172 sites 

This consistent rollout underlines India’s ambition to strengthen its digital infrastructure and bring 5G connectivity to both urban and semi-urban areas. 

With about 5 lakh 5G base stations across India, the country is making stable progress towards the creation of a strong 5G ecosystem. While July 2025 marked the highest monthly additions this year. August Rollout said that telecom operators are committed to the expansion of coverage and growing data demand.
