In a significant step to enhance telecom services in India, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed telecom operators, including BSNL, Vodafone Idea, Jio, and Airtel, to publish detailed network coverage maps on their websites. This initiative aims to improve the quality of service (QoS) and empower the nation’s 1.2 billion mobile users to make informed decisions when selecting or switching telecom providers.
Benefits for Users
Under the new mandate, telcos must display geographic maps indicating their 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G network coverage. These maps will enable users to identify which operator offers the best connectivity in their area, simplifying the decision-making process for choosing a SIM card or switching service providers. Previously, only a few companies provided such detailed coverage data, leaving users with limited insights into network performance in specific locations.

A Step Toward Transparency
TRAI’s directive emphasizes the importance of transparent network information in delivering a satisfactory user experience. By making coverage maps accessible, users can better evaluate the service quality offered by various operators in their locality. The move highlights TRAI’s commitment to ensuring reliable mobile connectivity as a cornerstone of high-quality telecom services in India.
