UK connectivity infrastructure provider Freshwave, in collaboration with real estate technology firm Electracom Projects, has successfully deployed 4G connectivity from all four major UK mobile network operators (MNOs) at 8 Bishopsgate, a landmark development in the City of London. Developed by Mitsubishi Estate London and Stanhope, the 50-storey skyscraper spans over 900,000 square feet, with 500,000 square feet dedicated to office spaces. It is also the tallest building in the UK to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding sustainability rating.
Seamless 4G Coverage with DAS Technology
To ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity throughout the building, Freshwave designed and installed a 4G distributed antenna system (DAS). The system directly integrates with MNO networks, overcoming signal interference caused by modern construction materials. Freshwave will also provide ongoing support through a managed service model.
Addressing Connectivity Challenges
Modern high-rise buildings often struggle with mobile signal penetration due to energy-efficient materials and structural designs. Freshwave’s DAS solution ensures reliable coverage for all occupants, with sixteen tenants already onboard under a commercial agreement with 8 Bishopsgate, Freshwave, and Electracom.
Enhancing Smart Building Capabilities
Nick Seaton, Director at Electracom Projects, emphasized the importance of seamless connectivity, stating that 8 Bishopsgate’s smart building technology allows occupants to use a mobile app for building access, room bookings, and event management. Freshwave’s mobile network integration further enhances the user experience, making connectivity a key part of the development’s technological infrastructure.
Designed by WilkinsonEyre, 8 Bishopsgate dedicates 10 percent of its space—75,000 square feet—to public amenities, including a restaurant, café, terrace, event spaces, and The Lookout, a free-access viewing gallery on the 50th floor.
