In a significant effort to enhance infrastructure in government and aided schools, especially through the integration of new technology, the school education department has established internet connections in 20,332 state-run schools. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with BSNL, was detailed in a circular from the department. So far, 5,913 out of 6,223 government high and higher secondary schools have been equipped with internet facilities.
Additionally, internet connectivity has been installed in 3,799 out of 6,992 middle schools. For primary schools, 10,620 out of approximately 24,000 schools now have internet access. “Out of a total of 37,553 government and aided schools in the state, 20,332 schools have been provided with internet connections. The remaining 17,221 government schools will receive internet connectivity by the second week of June,” the circular stated.
The establishment of internet facilities in state-run schools is expected to greatly benefit teachers, particularly in rural areas, by reducing the need for frequent trips to internet centers to complete school-related tasks. Recognizing the importance of internet access for both teachers and students, the department has also set up high-tech labs at a cost of Rs 519.73 crore and created 22,931 smart classrooms for Rs 455.32 crore. These advancements aim to benefit 46.12 lakh students, fostering a conducive learning environment through technology in government and aided schools.
