Bharat 6G Vision

The Bharat 6G Vision is built on principles of affordability, sustainability, and ubiquity, ensuring that India emerges as a leading provider of modern telecom technology and solutions that are cost-effective and beneficial globally.

Bharat 6G Mission

While India has recently introduced 5G, capable of delivering internet speeds up to 10 gigabits per second, 6G promises ultra-low latency and speeds up to 1 terabit per second. This means 6G users could download over 100 films per minute, benefiting from high data speeds. Additionally, 6G will support advanced use cases like digital twins, holograms, and immersive extended reality applications. It will integrate terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, enabling a single device to operate across multiple technologies, and will connect billions of machines and devices, bridging the virtual and real worlds.

The introduction of 6G represents a significant milestone in Indian technology, transforming interactions between humans and machines. According to Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, India has recently secured over 127 patents for 6G technology from international organizations. This achievement has drawn interest from countries like the United States, which are keen to access India’s advanced 6G technology. India is seen as a promising destination for investments in 6G technology due to its large market, high return on investment potential, and favorable government policies allowing 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the telecom sector.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has accepted the 6G Vision Framework, developed with significant contributions from India’s Department of Telecommunications and Ministry of Communications. This framework incorporates ubiquitous connectivity, intelligence, and sustainability as key components, enhancing India’s standing in the global telecommunications industry.

Bharat 6G Mission Objectives

– Enable India to become a major provider of IP, goods, and services for cost-effective 5G, 6G, and other telecom solutions.

– Implement 6G technologies by 2030 to serve as a powerful force multiplier for India.

– Encourage and support Indian participation in standards development organizations.

– Form alliances with international technological and standards organizations.

– Align India’s priorities with upcoming global technological standards, deployments, products, operations, and services.

– Support the ecosystem for end-to-end solutions, use cases, pilots, research, design, prototyping, development, testing, IPR creation, and manufacturing of telecom goods.

– Research, propose, and integrate national standards into Indian and international standardization organizations.

– Develop strategies to enhance India’s readiness for implementing the Bharat 6G Vision.

– Collaborate with academic institutions, industries, R&D organizations, test labs, government bodies, telecom service providers, startups, and the Government of India to foster technological innovation for the public good.

– Identify research priorities with input from all stakeholders, including business, academia, and service providers, encompassing theoretical studies, proof-of-concept prototypes, demonstrations, market interventions, and startup initiatives.

Way Ahead

India’s pursuit of 6G technology is crucial for becoming a digitally enabled society. With its large population and rapidly expanding digital infrastructure, India stands to gain significantly from 6G development and deployment. However, widespread adoption of 6G will require substantial investment in R&D and infrastructure upgrades. Collaborative efforts between the government and industry leaders are essential to maintaining India’s status as a technological innovator and preparing for the 6G era. By implementing the right investments and policies, India can lead the global technology landscape and benefit from 6G advancements for years to come.

The advent of 6G holds a future filled with unprecedented possibilities, sparking excitement among stakeholders eager to embrace the next generation of technology. However, it is crucial for these stakeholders to maintain a sense of realism as they navigate the landscape of 6G. Rather than succumbing to the rush for the latest technology, a thoughtful examination of use cases, applications, and network capabilities is essential. This approach ensures a solid foundation for the seamless integration and sustainable development of 6G technology. In the following exploration, we delve into the intricacies of this emerging network technology and its potential implications for India.
