About Broadband India Forum (BIF)

The Broadband India Forum (BIF) is a non-profit, non-political organization established to promote the development and adoption of broadband and digital communication technologies across India. It serves as a collaborative platform for stakeholders—including technology companies, policymakers, and industry experts—to advocate for policies that enhance broadband penetration and digital infrastructure in the country.

Key Objectives and Activities of Broadband India Forum (BIF):

  • Policy Advocacy: BIF actively engages with government bodies and regulatory authorities to influence policies that facilitate the growth of broadband services. It supports initiatives like the National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP) 2018, aiming to rationalize spectrum pricing and reduce levies on telecom players.
  • Promotion of Private 5G Networks: The forum advocates for the allocation of spectrum to enterprises for setting up private 5G networks, arguing that such networks can boost productivity and innovation without significantly impacting telecom operators’ revenues.
  • Support for Net Neutrality: BIF endorses the principles of net neutrality, emphasizing that there should be no blocking, throttling, or discrimination of internet content, thus ensuring an open and fair internet ecosystem.
  • Advancement of Wi-Fi Technologies: In collaboration with international bodies like the Wireless Broadband Alliance, BIF works towards the adoption of next-generation Wi-Fi technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7) and advocates for the delicensing of the 6GHz spectrum band to enhance broadband access.
  • Opposition to Selective OTT Bans: The forum opposes selective bans on Over-The-Top (OTT) services, arguing that existing laws sufficiently address regulatory concerns and that additional restrictions could hinder innovation and consumer choice.

Through these initiatives, the Broadband India Forum aims to bridge the digital divide and support India’s vision of becoming a digitally empowered society.

Notable Members of Broadband India Forum:

The Broadband India Forum (BIF) comprises a diverse group of members from various sectors of the broadband and digital communications industry. These members include technology providers, telecom operators, internet service providers (ISPs), satellite operators, startups, academia, and policy think tanks.
