5G Smartwatches Expected to Accelerate 5G Standalone Growth in 2025-26

Summary:
Industry experts agree that the launch of 5G smartwatches, expected at the end of 2025, could boost the adoption of 5G standalone (SA) networks. According to Dell’Oro Group, the new gadgets will depend upon 5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) tech, which functions on 5G SA networks. With AT&T already announcing RedCap aid masking almost 200 million human beings, other main operators like Verizon are predicted to follow quickly.

Apple’s first 5G Smartwatch anticipated launch, was rumored with iPhone 17 for September or later in 2025. The US nationwide 5G is seen as a possible turning point for a SA rolling, while neither AT&T nor Verizon has confirmed the exact time for consumer-grade 5G SA services, suggesting to analysts that they may combine with comprehensive availability.

Dell’Oro’s research states that 5G core vendor Revenue Q2 increased 31% year-to-year in 2025, indicating strong speeds in mobile core networks (MCN) and edge markets. At the same time, at least 71 mobile network operators (MNO) worldwide have already launched a mobile broadband service for consumers, which laying groundwork for more advanced 5G applications.

In the long run, 5G SA adoption is inevitable. With 5G-Advanced and future 6G technologies requiring a standalone 5G core to function, operators currently running non-standalone (NSA) networks will need to transition by around 2030. The upcoming launch of 5G smartwatches may therefore act as a catalyst—accelerating both consumer demand and operator readiness for the next stage of mobile connectivity.
