India to Play Key Role in Shaping Global 6G Standards Scindia

India is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the global 6G landscape, emerging as one of the top six countries in terms of patent filings for next-generation telecom technology, said Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Speaking at the theme launch of India Mobile Congress 2025, scheduled for October, Scindia emphasized India’s growing influence in the development of global 6G protocols. “India is expected to contribute 10% of global patents when 6G protocols are finalized at the World Radiocommunication Conference in 2027,” the minister stated.

He noted that India has already made two significant submissions that have been accepted on the global stage—ubiquitous connectivity and equity in connectivity—further reinforcing the country’s thought leadership in digital inclusion and infrastructure.

“We have built one of the most robust and cutting-edge telecom ecosystems globally—one that is both customer- and service-oriented,” Scindia added. “As we explore future opportunities like 6G, innovation must remain at the core of our efforts.”

India’s active participation in 6G development highlights the nation’s transition from being a consumer of telecom technologies to becoming a global contributor and policy shaper in next-gen communications.
