Coverage Maps of Airtel, Jio and Vi Goes Live

Coverage Maps of Airtel, Jio and Vi Goes Live

Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea have made their network coverage maps available to users on their respective websites. This move comes in response to a directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which mandates telecom operators to display geospatial coverage maps showing the areas where they provide wireless voice and broadband services.

TRAI’s Mandate for Network Coverage Maps

This requirement is part of TRAI’s revised Quality of Service (QoS) regulations, which came into effect on October 1, 2024. The objective is to empower consumers with accurate network coverage information, enabling them to make informed decisions when choosing a telecom provider.

“Information on mobile network coverage is important from the perspective of QoS. One cannot expect good service quality in a non-coverage area. The availability of service-wise geospatial coverage maps on service providers’ websites will help consumers make better choices,” TRAI stated in November 2023, as reported.

Where to Find the Coverage Maps?

The network coverage maps for Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea are now accessible on their official websites

  • Airtel – Available under “Check Coverage” on airtel.in/wirelesscoverage.
  • Jio – Listed under “Coverage Map” on its website.
  • Vodafone Idea (Vi) – Found under “Network Coverage” in the footer section of its website.

Airtel’s Network Coverage and Functionality Issues

Airtel allows users to check 2G, 4G, and 5G coverage via its interactive map. However, at the time of testing, the Airtel coverage map was not functioning, preventing verification of network availability. With TRAI enforcing greater transparency, users can now assess network quality before selecting their telecom service provider.
