India Set to Operate Fully on 5G by 2026, Accelerates Indigenous 6G Development

India will operate entirely on 5G by the end of 2026, with efforts already in motion to develop homegrown 6G technology, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced at the India-Israel Business Forum in New Delhi.

India’s 5G Rollout and Future 6G Development

“By the end of 2026, the entire country will be functioning solely on 5G,” Goyal stated. “We have already started developing our own 6G technology to further enhance telecom connectivity.”

India, the world’s second-largest telecom market, boasts 1.15 billion mobile subscribers and over 500 million internet users. The telecom sector currently contributes 8% to India’s GDP, playing a vital role in economic growth.

Driving Digital Innovation

Goyal’s remarks underscore India’s commitment to self-reliance in next-generation telecom technology, aiming to position itself as a global leader in digital infrastructure. He also highlighted key developments in 5G expansion, transportation networks, and public welfare initiatives.

Reaffirming India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Goyal expressed confidence in maintaining this growth momentum through strong infrastructure investments and progressive economic policies.

“India’s growth story is one of resilience and determination. Our focus remains on building a future-ready nation that fosters collaboration and innovation,” he said.
