T-Mobile and Starlink Partnership to Cover US Remote Areas

T-Mobile, in collaboration with Starlink, has launched a public beta for its groundbreaking service that merges satellite and mobile technologies to cover over 500,000 square miles previously unreachable by traditional cell towers. Initially, the service will support text messaging, with future updates set to include picture messaging, data, and voice calls.

When users move beyond the range of conventional cell towers, their devices will seamlessly switch to T-Mobile Starlink without requiring manual setup. This service utilizes specially designed satellites with Direct-to-Cell capabilities, orbiting 200 miles above Earth at speeds exceeding 17,000 miles per hour.

T-Mobile Starlink enhances communication with support for group messages, message reactions, and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs), ensuring critical notifications reach users in remote locations. The beta program is free until July 2025.

“T-Mobile Starlink is the first and only space-based mobile network in the U.S. that automatically connects to your phone, keeping you connected even where no cellular network exists,” said Mike Sievert, T-Mobile’s president and CEO. “It’s a massive technical achievement and a game changer for all wireless users.”

He added, “We’re still in the early stages—I don’t want to overhype the experience during the beta—but we’re officially putting ‘no bars’ on notice. Dead zones, your days are numbered at the Un-carrier.
