Starlink Now Live in Bhutan

Starlink Now Live in Bhutan

The Bhutan Information Communication and Media Authority (BICMA) has officially approved Starlink Services Private Limited, an FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) company, to provide satellite-based internet services in Bhutan. With this approval, Starlink’s services are now available in the country.

This development is a major milestone for Bhutan’s internet connectivity, particularly benefiting rural and remote regions where traditional networks struggle due to the country’s rugged mountainous terrain and infrastructure constraints.

Before granting the license, BICMA conducted a thorough evaluation, assessing Starlink’s FDI registration, appointment of local representatives for regulatory compliance, and commitments to service quality and data privacy. The license allows internet services through user terminals, but does not permit direct satellite-to-mobile cellular services.
