C-DoT and IIT Delhi Collaborate to Develop Core Components for 6G Technology

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), the premier Telecom R&D center under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) to advance indigenous 6G telecommunications technology. The collaboration focuses on developing “Building Blocks for THz Communication Front Ends,” a key component for next-generation 6G systems. This initiative falls under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) 6G Call for Proposals, supporting India’s Bharat 6G Vision to design, develop, and deploy secure, intelligent, and ubiquitous 6G network technologies.

The project aims to create fundamental devices and components for THz communication systems critical to 6G and other applications like military communications and material characterization. In alignment with India’s recent chip fabrication initiatives, IIT Delhi, in collaboration with SAMEER (Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research) Kolkata, will spearhead the development of these components. C-DoT will serve as the implementing agency, ensuring seamless progression from research to production-level fabrication of THz components.

Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DoT, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the Prime Minister’s Bharat 6G Vision, highlighting its potential to drive transformative innovations in communication technology. Prof. Ananjan Basu from IIT Delhi expressed his team’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge research in 6G, noting that the collaboration strengthens India’s telecom research capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The agreement, signed during a ceremony attended by key leaders from C-DoT and IIT Delhi, marks a milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in telecom technology, paving the way for groundbreaking advancements in microelectronics and next-generation communications.
