5G-IoT Powered Connected Ambulances Launched in India

India-based health-tech company LifeSigns has announced partnerships with IoT solutions provider Hetrogenous and UK-based airtime provider FloLIVE to launch a 4G/5G-powered connected ambulance solution in India. The product, called LifeConnect, uses medical sensors and live video to monitor patients during ambulance transport to hospitals. The Chennai-based company has already deployed this solution in hospitals across India.

Hetrogenous is supplying its EdgeSTAY-branded multi-SIM gateways, which switch between IoT airtime providers to maintain stable connectivity. FloLIVE is providing multi-IMSI 4G/5G IoT SIMs with hybrid-private 5G from global mobile operators to ensure secure data transfer and high availability for continuous patient monitoring. The goal is to prevent connectivity interruptions and transform traditional ambulances into mobile critical care units with advanced and basic life support (ALS and BLS) capabilities.

LifeConnect’s sensors monitor vital patient data such as electrocardiograms (ECG), heart rate, and oxygen saturation. High-definition video cameras also allow hospital staff to visually monitor patients during transit. The sensor/network technology, referred to as “5GIoT” by Hetrogenous, provides low-latency network switching and reliable data transfers.

LifeSigns emphasized the importance of uninterrupted connectivity during the critical ‘golden hour’ of patient transport to hospitals. The system allows paramedics to receive timely instructions while hospitals can prepare for the patient’s arrival, potentially reducing mortality rates during medical emergencies.

LifeSigns, which develops clinical-grade biosensor products for remote patient monitoring, currently serves around 200,000 patients across 150 hospitals. The company is showcasing its new connected ambulance solution at the India Mobile Congress (IMC). Chief Technology Officer Vinayak Patil Kulkarni highlighted the role of FloLIVE and Hetrogenous in creating a resilient network with high throughput and fail-over capabilities, enhancing remote healthcare deployment.

FloLIVE’s co-founder and vice president, Jeegar Swaly, noted the essential nature of uninterrupted data availability in IoT healthcare solutions, emphasizing that their resilient infrastructure ensures seamless operation of life-saving technologies, regardless of location or route.
