Reliance Jio Set to Unveil Private 5G Deployments in Upcoming Months

Reliance Jio, India’s top telecom operator, plans to showcase its private 5G network deployments with enterprise customers in the coming three to four months, according to Ajay Sehgal, Chief Revenue Officer of Jio Business. Speaking at 5G Industries Innovation Summit 2024, Sehgal revealed that multiple proof-of-concept (PoC) projects are already in progress, with a focus on computer vision and Industry 4.0 applications.

Captive 5G Networks

Sehgal highlighted the advantages of captive 5G networks, particularly in simplifying network hardware management for enterprises and enabling autonomous operations in sectors like automated manufacturing. “With 5G, you have your own captive network, and no external entity can access it,” Sehgal said, underscoring the enhanced security and operational efficiency businesses can gain.

Remote Healthcare PoC

Jio is also conducting a PoC to assess whether a remote healthcare clinic can be integrated with a major hospital, enabling critical care delivery to patients via 5G and edge computing. This technology would allow doctors to monitor and treat patients in real time, extending advanced healthcare services to remote locations. Sehgal illustrated, “A small clinic is being connected to a larger hospital, with doctors available in real time, providing treatment to patients — an example of 5G and edge computing in action.”

Enterprise Connectivity by Jio

Jio currently handles nearly 8 percent of global mobile data traffic and has 130 million 5G users, making it the largest 5G operator outside China. Sehgal also noted that Jio provides connectivity and digital services to about 80 percent of Indian enterprises. “Our engineers support customers through approximately 1,100 Jio offices, addressing both network and hardware needs,” he added.
