India’s 5G infrastructure saw a notable boost in August 2024, with the deployment of 1,739 new 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), according to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). This expansion has significantly enhanced 5G connectivity and network coverage across the country.

Top States Leading 5G BTS Additions

Several states have made substantial contributions to the 5G network expansion. Uttar Pradesh led with 246 new BTS stations, followed by Haryana with 179, Gujarat with 162, and West Bengal with 148. Maharashtra added 114 new stations during the month, highlighting the ongoing progress in 5G deployment.

States with No Change

While most states saw growth, Kerala experienced a slight decrease of one BTS station. Andaman and Nicobar, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Nagaland reported no changes in their BTS numbers.

As of August 31, 2024, India’s total number of BTS stations has reached 453,794, marking steady progress in the 5G rollout. Currently, Airtel and Jio are offering 5G services free of charge, with Vodafone Idea yet to make an official announcement.
