TRAI New Secretary- Atul Chaudhary

The government appointed Atul Kumar Chaudhary as the Secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday, following the retirement of V. Raghunandan last month. Chaudhary, a 1989-batch Indian Telecommunication Services (ITS) officer, was previously serving as Deputy Director General at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). His appointment is for a two-year term, according to the notification. 

Chaudhary has extensive experience, having served as Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). He has worked in various roles within Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the DoT, handling personnel, human resources, administration, licensing, and vigilance divisions. 

An IIT Roorkee graduate, Chaudhary also holds a Master’s Diploma in Public Policy & Administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Delhi. As a telecom regulatory official, he will collaborate closely with industry stakeholders, particularly service providers, on ongoing initiatives such as curbing unsolicited communications and improving quality of service (QoS).
