Jio Achieves World’s Fastest 5G Rollout in December, Says Mukesh Ambani

Reliance Jio declared the completion of its 5G rollout across every taluka and town in India by December 2023, fulfilling a prior commitment. Despite this claim, the company’s official website still displays 5G availability in 7,764 cities/towns, with the last update date unclear.

During the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet – 2024, Mukesh Ambani announced on January 7, 2024, that Jio had accomplished the world’s fastest 5G rollout in December. The discrepancy between the official website data and the recent confirmation by Ambani raises anticipation for the updated figures on the Jio website.

Jio has implemented 5G SA (standalone architecture), considered superior to 5G NSA (non-standalone architecture) in various aspects. The telecom giant has taken a leading role in India’s 5G rollout, deploying the highest number of 5G BTS (Base Transceiver Station).

In Tamil Nadu, Jio invested over Rs 35,000 crore to extend network connectivity to its 35 million subscribers in every town and village. Ambani highlighted the substantial investment, stating that it has brought the benefits of the digital revolution to the state’s population.

Additionally, Reliance has collaborated with Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management and US-based Digital Realty to establish a cutting-edge data center, set to open next week.

Presently, Reliance Jio is providing free 5G to customers recharging with the Rs 239 plan or higher, available for both prepaid and postpaid mobile users. The activation of the free 5G offer can be done through the MyJio app. However, the company has not provided details on when this complimentary 5G offer will be discontinued.
