Omdia Report Says 5G FWA Subscription will be 2x by 2030

The global telecom landscape is shifting rapidly as 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) emerges as a dominant broadband solution. As per a recent report by Omdia, 5G FWA subscriptions are expected to rise from 71 million in 2024 to 150 million by 2030, marking a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23%. This growth will propel FWA to account for 88% of total wireless broadband connections by the end of the decade, with revenues forecasted to touch USD 46 billion.

The report highlights that India and the United States will be the key drivers of this expansion. India’s aggressive 5G rollout and rural connectivity initiatives are enabling affordable high-speed internet in previously underserved regions. Meanwhile, in the USA, telecom giants are using FWA to extend last-mile connectivity more efficiently than traditional fiber or cable networks.

A major differentiator in the FWA market will be the Quality of Experience (QoE) rather than just raw speed. Telecom operators are now prioritizing reliability, low latency, and consistent performance to meet the rising demands of gamers, remote professionals, and video streamers. This focus on service quality is expected to define customer loyalty and competitive positioning in the years ahead.

Omdia further projects that 5G FWA will surpass 4G FWA by 2027, overtaking DSL to become the third-largest broadband technology globally. With cable modem subscriptions likely to decline, FWA is poised to become the second most common broadband access method after 2030, signaling a significant shift in global connectivity trends.
