Zayo Unveils Significant Network Infrastructure Upgrades Across North America

Communications infrastructure provider Zayo has announced significant upgrades to its critical infrastructure across North America. These enhancements include expanding network connectivity offerings with new 400G-enabled wavelength routes, enhanced on-demand network capabilities, and IP core upgrades.

New 400G Wavelength Routes

“Today’s businesses need to deliver connections and experiences faster than ever to remain competitive. In our digital business age, their network can be a make-or-break factor,” Zayo stated. “Zayo has built North America’s largest independent fiber network, and we continue to advance our offerings to ensure our customers have a network that’s ready for tomorrow’s challenges.”

Since April 2024, Zayo has completed five unique 400G wavelength routes, offering diverse options across the US. Key routes include:

Los Angeles to San Jose: Provides low-latency, high-capacity data center connectivity.

Chicago to St. Louis: Enhances access to Chicago with a critical North-South link.

Reno to Barstow: Supports high-bandwidth needs for carriers and enterprises.

Columbus to Pittsburgh: Ensures faster access between major markets.

Quebec City to Montreal: Offers exclusive 400G connectivity options, connecting key data centers.

Zayo has also expanded 400G capacity on four routes connecting key cities, including Richmond, Cleveland, and Chicago. With these upgrades, Zayo now operates the largest 400G network in North America. By the end of 2024, nearly 90 percent of Zayo’s North American fiber network will be 400G-enabled, making it one of the largest fully 400G-enabled networks.

Expansion of On-Demand Network Capabilities

Zayo’s Waves on Demand service now allows for wavelength activation within 24 hours on 10 high-demand routes, including connections from Atlanta to Miami and Seattle to San Jose.

The company has also expanded its IP network, adding 11 new North American points-of-presence (PoPs) and upgrading four existing locations to enhance scalability and reliability for advanced applications. Zayo now has 375 global IP PoPs, with 250 located in North America.

In 2024 alone, Zayo has expanded its network by nearly 500,000 additional fiber miles and added 2,000 new on-net buildings. These advancements are designed to equip businesses with faster and more reliable connectivity, crucial for maintaining competitiveness.
