Vodafone Idea Set to Unveil 5G-Powered Vi AirFiber, VR Gaming, and Metaverse Experiences at IMC 2023

Vodafone Idea is all set to unveil a host of consumer-focused use cases at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) scheduled from October 27 to October 29. One of the spotlighted offerings is the ‘Vi AirFiber,’ which promises a smart home experience where all devices are interconnected and capable of enjoying high-speed 5G connectivity. While the Vi AirFiber may hold the potential of being the telco’s fixed wireless access (FWA) offering, it’s important to note that Vodafone Idea has not yet rolled out its commercial 5G services. In contrast, competitors like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are nearing the completion of their 5G deployments and have already launched their commercial 5G fixed broadband services—JioAirFiber and Airtel Xstream AirFiber, respectively.

Vi has an exciting line-up of virtual reality (VR) gaming experiences in store for IMC attendees. This includes VR Cricket, a collaboration with iB Cricket, which transports users to a cricket stadium through VR headsets, enabling them to virtually step onto the pitch amid the roar of fans. This immersive gaming experience will be live-streamed on a large TV screen for the audience to enjoy. On the other hand, Vi’s VR Combat Shooting, developed in partnership with Yudiz Solutions, offers an adrenaline-pumping adventure as players don VR headsets to engage in intense combat scenarios, with their VR perspective mirrored on a large TV screen.

In collaboration with Deloitte India, Vi will introduce a metaverse experience that offers an educational journey into the history of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Chandrayaan launch. Additionally, it pays tribute to the accomplishments of Rakesh Sharma, India’s first citizen in space. The solution seamlessly transforms conventional classroom training into an XR (eXtended Reality) based experience, promising an innovative and engaging educational journey.

At this premier three-day telecom industry conference, Vi will also present an immersive cloud gaming service developed in partnership with CareGame, further enhancing its diverse range of offerings.
