TRAI Blacklists 50 Entities and 2.74 Lakhs Numbers Disconnected

In the past two weeks, telecom service providers have blacklisted over 50 entities and disconnected more than 2.75 lakh mobile numbers and telecom resources following a strict crackdown on spam calls and messages by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

“These measures are expected to significantly reduce spam calls, offering much-needed relief to consumers. TRAI urges all stakeholders to adhere to the directives and help build a cleaner, more efficient telecom ecosystem,” TRAI stated.

On August 13, the regulator issued stringent directives to telecom providers, requiring them to immediately halt promotional voice calls from unregistered telemarketers using telecom resources.

TRAI also warned unregistered telemarketers that misuse of telecom resources could result in disconnection for up to two years and blacklisting. These actions follow over 7.9 lakh complaints lodged against unregistered telemarketers during the first half of 2024.
