Telefonica Spain (Movistar) has launched its 5G summer plan to boost network capacity and coverage in 401 out of 445 tourist destinations where its 5G service is already operational. This upgrade spans 320 coastal areas and 81 inland locations experiencing significant summer visitor influxes. Telefonica announced on Thursday that these enhancements will remain in place even after the summer season.
5G Coverage for Tourist Hotspots
Movistar’s 5G network now reaches 391 beach towns, ranging from small locales like El Port de la Selva (Gerona) and Caravia (Asturias) to larger cities such as Roquetas de Mar (Almeria) and San Fernando (Cadiz). Additionally, 54 inland destinations with high summer visitor numbers, including small towns like Maello (Avila) and Panticosa (Huesca), also benefit from 5G coverage.
5G for Enhanced Mobile Experiences
Of the 445 tourist destinations with Movistar’s 5G (391 coastal and 54 inland), about 50 percent now have high-capacity 5G (3,500 MHz), delivering high speeds and low latency. This enhancement supports improved mobile experiences such as high-quality video, instant downloads, uninterrupted streaming, and cloud gaming, even in crowded areas.
Strengthened 5G for Events Across Spain
Telefonica has also strengthened 5G coverage for 576 events across Spain, including major festivals like Mad Cool in Madrid and FIB in Benicasim. The deployment includes 103 temporary mobile units to manage peak demands during these events.
With this summer deployment, Movistar’s 5G now covers over 89 percent of the population across Spain, according to the company.
