Summary:
In June 2025, Reliance Jio strengthened its position as India’s top telecom operator by adding 2.19 million wireless customers, the highest monthly advantage among all the players. With 31.44% market share in mobile services and strong performance in broadband and wireline, Jio continues to lead India’s telecom sector in many sections, which further strengthens its reputation as the country’s most diverse and fastest growing telecommunications company.

June 2025 Telecom Subscriber Highlights

India’s telecommunications industry saw a steady increase in both wireless and wireline segments in June 2025. The total customer base rose to 979.71 million, including 935.02 million wireless and 44.69 million wireline users. The National Tele density was 86.09%, with urban tele density 133.56% and rural tele density was 59.43%.

Reliance Jio: Leading Market in Every Segment

Reliance Jio added 2.19 million new wireless customers in June, to 31.44% of its stake in its mobile market. In the broadband segment, Jio continued to lead with 50.74% market share, which reflects its strong performance in both JioFiber and Jio Airfiber in both mobile and fixed wireless access.

In the wireline segment, Jio staked a stake of 31.44%, supported by the increasing demand for home internet services. It established Jio as India’s most integrated telecom player, which dominates wireless, wireline and broadband.

Bharti Airtel: Stable Growth and Strong Wired Connectivity

Bharti Airtel remained the second largest telecom operator with a net joint of 275,621 to 1.03 million wireless users in May. This maintained a 54% market share in the Wired Broadband segment and a 33.62% stake in the wireless market, reflecting a stable performance in both mobile and fiber broadband services.

Airtel’s total wired subscriber base was 9.41 million, which maintained its leadership in urban broadband delivery and enterprise connectivity solutions.

Vodafone Idea and Public Sector Operators Continue to Decline

Vodafone Idea (VI) lost 217,816 wireless subscribers in June 2025, continuing the projection between financial stress and rising AGR arrears. Its wireline shares were only 1.62%, while its wireless market share fell by 17.56%.

Public sector telcos, BSNL and MTNL – also reported damage, in which BSNL shed 305,766 mobile users. Combined, PSU is now less than 8% of India’s mobile customer base, which reflects their shrinking effects in the rapidly integrated market.

Broadband and Wireline Growth Spikes

India’s broadband subscriber base rose from 974.87 million in May to 979.71 million in June, leading to 0.50% monthly growth rate. The wireline segment experienced strong growth, with membership jumping from 38.66 million to 47.49 million – a huge 22.83% monthly growth, large -scale fiber rollouts and operated by fixed wireless access.

Wireline Market Share Breakdown (June 2025):

  • Reliance Jio: 31.44%
  • Bharti Airtel: 21.80%
  • BSNL, MTNL, APSFL (Joint): 21.04%
  • Vodafone Ideas: 1.62%

Wireless Market Dynamics

India’s total wireless subscriber base rose from 1,168.42 million to 1,170.88 million, with an increase of 0.21% every month.

Wireless market share in June 2025:

  • Reliance Jio: 41.02%
  • Bharti Airtel: 33.62%
  • Vodafone Idea: 17.56%
  • BSNL & MTNL: 7.8% combined

The number outlines private telecom players, especially the continuous speed of Jio and Airtel, while public sector operators continue to lose attendance in the market.

Reliance Jio’s strong performance in June 2025, with the highest customer addition and market leadership in wireless, broadband and wireline, confirms India’s most prominent and diverse telecommunications operator. While Airtel continues to maintain a solid position, Vodafone Idea and Public Sector Telcos faces increasing challenges, leading the industry to the leadership of a fast competitive and private player.
