Nokia and Amazon Web Services Introduce Agentic AI-Driven 5G-Advanced Network Slicing on Operational 5G Networks

Summary:
Nokia has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch the first agentic AI-enabled 5G-Advanced network slicing solution in a live 5G environment, with operators like du and Orange among early adopters. By integrating Nokia’s network slicing technology with AWS’s AI capabilities through Amazon Bedrock, the solution uses real-time data to dynamically adjust network performance, unlike traditional static slicing. This intent-based approach enhances efficiency, ensures service-level agreements, and supports premium, context-aware services for enterprises, emergency response, large events, and high-traffic scenarios. Built on Nokia’s 5G AirScale and MantaRay platforms and powered by AWS infrastructure, the collaboration aims to help telecom operators unlock new revenue streams and accelerate the shift toward autonomous, AI-native 5G networks.

Nokia has revealed a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to roll out the first agentic AI-enabled 5G-Advanced network slicing solution within an operational 5G environment. This development merges Nokia’s sophisticated network slicing capabilities with AWS’s artificial intelligence technologies, allowing telecom operators to offer premium, intent-driven services exactly where and when they are required.

Telecom providers such as du and Orange are among the early adopters testing the solution in their live networks.

Agentic AI Brings Dynamic 5G Network Slicing

The AI-powered slicing platform uses agentic AI to process real-time information, including geographic data, live events, traffic flow, incidents, weather updates, maps, and schedules. By continuously tracking network performance indicators such as bitrate and latency, it automatically modifies radio access network policies to uphold service-level agreements.

In contrast to conventional static slicing setups, this intent-based 5G-Advanced approach independently responds to changing and unpredictable situations like sudden traffic spikes, emergencies, or large public gatherings. As a result, it optimizes network efficiency, ensures better resource allocation, and enhances user experience across different regions.

Pallavi Mahajan, Chief Technology and AI Officer at Nokia, described the advancement as a key milestone in the shift toward AI-native networks, helping operators generate new revenue opportunities and deliver differentiated premium offerings to enterprises, industries, and consumers.

Amir Rao, Global Director of GTM and Telco Solutions at AWS, emphasized that traditional manual configurations and fixed policies have restricted on-demand service deployment. By embedding agentic AI through Amazon Bedrock into Nokia’s solution, operators can now enable intelligent, context-aware slicing that dynamically adapts to real-world conditions, effectively transforming network slicing into a strategic business tool.

Applications of Agentic AI-Driven 5G Slicing

Enterprise and Industrial Use Cases

The system facilitates intent-based slicing for businesses by automatically fine-tuning network KPIs across campuses, industrial parks, and urban areas. This supports high-quality connectivity for sectors such as manufacturing, IoT ecosystems, drones, smart city infrastructure, healthcare facilities, energy providers, transport networks, and port operations.

Emergency and On-Demand Deployment

When activated by external data inputs, agentic AI can enhance performance at designated 5G base stations, ensuring stronger connectivity for first responders and public safety teams during crisis situations. It also maintains service quality for premium 5G and fixed wireless users engaged in gaming, streaming, extended reality, and AI-driven applications during peak periods or adverse weather.

Large Events and High-Traffic Environments

For concerts, sports matches, and major conferences, AI agents assess network behavior and automatically adjust slicing parameters to deliver high-capacity coverage. This benefits VIP guests, digital payment systems, fan interaction platforms, live streaming services, and operational staff in stadiums and large venues.

Comprehensive 5G-Advanced Technology Framework

The complete slicing architecture spans radio, transport, and core network layers. It incorporates Nokia’s 5G AirScale base stations and MantaRay SMO, combined with agentic AI components deployed on AWS infrastructure.

Through APIs, AI agents connect with Amazon Bedrock to manage data analytics, inference processes, and network policy orchestration. These agents function in chatbot-driven, on-demand, scheduled, and fully autonomous modes, offering flexible service management.

The platform is further strengthened by Nokia’s Edge Slicing solution, which positions cloud applications and workloads closer to end users via secure, high-capacity, low-latency 5G connectivity.

AWS infrastructure, including Amazon EKS Hybrid Nodes, enables telecom operators to implement AI agents and network workloads across their current systems while streamlining Kubernetes operations across both cloud and edge environments.

Driving Monetization Opportunities for 5G Providers

With the introduction of agentic AI-based 5G-Advanced network slicing, Nokia and AWS seek to support telecom operators in maximizing returns on their 5G investments through premium, differentiated, and context-aware services. By facilitating real-time, intent-led service deployment, this collaboration represents a major advance toward fully autonomous, AI-native mobile networks.
