'Made in India' Telecom Equipment Now Exported to Over 100 Countries, Says Indian Government

The Indian government has announced that telecom equipment designed and manufactured domestically is now being exported to over 100 countries. Last year, these exports, along with telecom services, totaled more than USD 18.2 billion. Madhu Arora, Member (Technology) of the Digital Communications Commission in the Department of Telecom, highlighted that many Indian telecom companies have found success in Western markets, including the US, despite facing stiff global competition.

 

Arora also revealed that the Indian Army has integrated its first indigenous chip-based 4G mobile base station, developed by Indian R&D firms. This announcement was made at the ‘Defence Sector ICT Conclave’ held in the national capital, where 18 companies showcased their products. Arora underscored the critical role of information and communications technology (ICT) in defense operations, praising India’s vibrant ICT sector for its innovation, integrity, and significant global presence. 

Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, spoke about the ministry’s efforts to enhance cooperation with African countries in the ICT sector. He noted that India’s investments in Africa amount to around USD 75 billion, with Indian companies contributing significantly to digital transformation across the continent. 

Sandeep Aggarwal, Immediate Past Chairman of the Telecom Equipment & Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC), emphasized the crucial role of ICT in maintaining India’s sovereignty and integrity. He also highlighted India’s expertise in data analytics and artificial intelligence, which empower defense forces with predictive insights and actionable intelligence, thereby enhancing decision-making and operational effectiveness.
