5G O-RAN Testing Lab Inaugurates at C-DOT Bengaluru

Minister of Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, visited the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) campus in Bengaluru, where he inaugurated the 5G O-RAN testing lab and the “Tejas Centre of Excellence for Wireless Communications.” He also launched C-DOT’s indigenously designed 32T32R Massive MIMO radio, capable of delivering 1+ Gbps download speeds using the 5G mid-band spectrum.

The 5G O-RAN testing lab will benefit startups, academia, and industry by enabling them to test various components of the 5G open RAN system. During his visit, Shri Scindia witnessed a 5G call made using an open RAN-based 5G radio developed by C-DOT. The lab is designed to support the development of an end-to-end Indian 5G ecosystem, covering core, access, transport, cloud, orchestration, and security.

The visit began with the Minister planting a tree on the C-DOT campus, followed by a tour of the 4G, 5G, and server labs, where he praised the scientists for their efforts in developing cost-effective, indigenous telecom products. He encouraged the young engineers to continue innovating to realize the Prime Minister’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and progress towards “Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Shri Scindia also engaged with Bengaluru-based startups and domestic industry partners, including Astrome, Chipspirit Technologies, DeepVisionTech.AI, and others, who demonstrated their cutting-edge indigenous technologies. He commended C-DOT’s collaborative research projects, such as BharatRAN-1 and BharatRAN-2, aimed at developing O-RAN-compliant 5G RAN solutions for both public and private networks. The Minister assured full policy support for fostering research and innovation in Bengaluru, often referred to as the ‘Silicon Valley’ of India.
