Jio Platforms (JPL), the technology subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has secured a place among the world’s top 20 organisations in the latest Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) rankings published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In 2025, JPL recorded a remarkable rise of 320 positions in the rankings, making it one of the fastest-advancing innovators globally. The achievement places the company alongside leading technology giants such as Huawei, Samsung Electronics, Qualcomm, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Nokia, Google, Apple and Microsoft.
The company’s intellectual property efforts are concentrated on emerging digital technologies, including 5G, 5G Advanced, 6G, artificial intelligence, AI-driven network architectures, cloud-native systems, intelligent automation, radio access technologies, core network software, edge computing intelligence, fixed wireless access, network slicing and digital infrastructure platforms.
Reacting to the milestone, JPL’s Managing Director stated that the company’s entry into the global top 20 reflects years of investment in building deep-technology capabilities. He noted that the recognition highlights the pace of innovation being achieved across multiple advanced technology domains and reinforces Jio’s commitment to supporting India’s emergence as a global hub for deep-tech innovation.
The accomplishment is particularly noteworthy because Jio advanced 320 positions to reach 20th place during a year when worldwide PCT patent filings increased by less than one per cent. The ranking serves as an important validation of the company’s research and development strength and the depth of its intellectual property portfolio, while also showcasing India-origin technology innovation on the global stage.
As of March 31, 2026, Jio Platforms reported a cumulative total of 6,817 patent filings. This includes 2,393 applications submitted in India and 4,424 filed internationally. The company has secured 1,009 patent grants worldwide so far, comprising 538 granted in India and 471 across overseas markets.
